We are always interested in buying high quality used books. You get trade-in credit that can be spent on any new or used book in the store, your old books get a chance to find a new home, and we get to keep books out of a landfill. It’s a win-win-win!
Here's what you can expect when trading in your books:
The condition of the books is very important. We are always trying to improve the condition of our stock. It's the first thing we check on every book we buy. We try to only sell new, like new and very good books.
If we pass on your books due to their condition, it's nothing personal. At some point every book becomes too worn to be useful as a book. If this is the case we can help facilitate getting your book recycl
There are dozens of other categories! If we have a section for it in our store, we probably want more of it. Please ask for clarification.
As lovers of books, we understand a book’s value is a hard thing to calculate. The trade-in credit we are able to offer will likely not reflect the book’s personal value to you. We must, however, assess the value with which we are able to sell any given used book and must consider the cost of running an indie bookstore (where books may rest on a shelf for a year or more) and paying our wonderful booksellers.
We do not pay cash for books.
Our core mission is to promote literacy in our community. One of the most effective ways we have found to do this is to support local educators. We offer you the chance to join us in supporting educators by allowing you to donate your trade-in credit to an educator. When you drop off books you can select a local educator or have us randomly selected one. Educators who have an account with us are able to use trade-in credit in conjunction with their educator discount.
Please make an appointment first, we do not take walk-ins. Second, we have you fill out our Book Buying Customer Information form. Then, we take your books to our storage area. A professional bookseller will assess them to decide what we will and will not take. If you elected to have the trade-in credit added to your personal book buying account, we will contact you to inform you of the value in trade credit. If you selected to donate the trade-in credit we will contact the educator who is receiving the credit. Books we did not take will ether be returned to you (you have 48 hours to pick them up) or will be donated locally.
When dropping off books, we ask that you please bring them in a clean box (prefered), tote, or bag. Please allow time for our experienced booksellers to evaluate your books so we can make a trade in credit offer for them. We will contact you by phone when we are done. Please call ahead if you have a large quantity!
